The undisputed charm of Rome with its terracotta rooftops, umbrella pines and Fiat 500 were the backdrop for one of our favorite weddings of the season. A day that was perfectly photographed by Ian Holmes who truly captured the very soul of Rome along with the magical moments of Rita and Giuseppe’s incredible day. (Read more about Ian at the end of this post).
It was Rita and Giuseppe’s dream to get married in Rome in one of the city’s most amazing churches. They contacted the team of Distinctive Italy Weddings in January, and as the months unfolded, we created a once in a lifetime event for this wonderful couple.
The day began with joy and laughter. It was a time of celebration for family and friends who flew in from the United States to be part of Rita and Giuseppe’s wedding in Rome.
The bride was properly pampered at the hotel by professional makeup and hair stylists.

Rita was a stunning bride, truly regal; with the most amazing dress…….
The bridal party arrived at the church in a gorgeous convertible classic Bentley which was decorated with flowers. The weather could not have been more perfect for a wedding in Rome…..with the sun shining……..glorious!
The church Rita and Giuseppe chose is the magnificent Santa Maria Aracoeli……famous also for its 124 steps. It is one of the most spectacular churches in Rome with fine works of art, gilded interiors and frescoes. Built on the Capitoline Hill it enjoys spectacular views over the rooftops of Rome.
Upon exiting the church a local folk group from the Lazio region welcomed and celebrated the couple with traditional music and dancing. It was magical!
After their wedding ceremony Rita and Giuseppe took some spectacular photos throughout the Eternal City including the Roman Forum, monuments and parks.
The wedding reception was held at a luxury restaurant overlooking the Coliseum…with the sun setting over the Eternal City. A memory that will last a lifetime.

After the reception…..music and dancing followed until late with much laughter and fun.

Born in Rome in 1977, Fulvio graduated in film. He works in the television and advertising and film as a film maker. He has produced documentaries and reports for major national and international television productions in addition to the creation of many commercials and music videos. Wedding videos however remain his passion.

These amazing photos were shot by Ian Holmes. Ian is an English photographer currently based in Paris, France. He began shooting romantic portraiture on the streets of Paris and these images caught the eye of several wedding planners and from there he entered the world of high end weddings.
Ian’s style is a fusion of fine art and photojournalism. His goal when photographing a wedding is to create a set of images that tell the story of the day in the most beautiful way possible. He truly captures natural moments, while at times he will compose and direct. In these instances he creates and captures something that looks natural and spontaneous.
