Best time to marry in Pisa:  all year round

A wedding in Pisa, Tuscany offers one of the most varied settings in the region:  countryside, the ocean, castles, beaches and historic towns and cities.

Location
Pisa's location close to the Ligurian Sea is one of the main reasons for Pisa's rise to power in the Middle Ages along with other maritime republics such as Amalfi, Genova and Venice.  Eventually, during the 15th century, Pisa came under the domination of its larger rival:  Florence.  There is a rich history of Romanesque and Renaissance art and architecture throughout the city which is easily explored on foot. Best of all, Pisa is only 52 miles (84km) from Florence.  The Leaning Tower and the spectacular Cathedral (Duomo) with its horizontal marble-stripe design are from the Romanesque period.  The Piazza dei Cavalieri displays a very fine collection of palaces:  the Palazzo dei Cavalieri and Palazzo dell'Orologio and the church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri which was designed by the famous Renaissance architect Giorgio Vasari in 1560.

Ceremonies
Civil weddings in Pisa can take place in five historic venues.  The Gambacorti Palace offers 3 different historical halls, one of which is quite spectacularly grand.  Then there is the Abbazia di San Zeno - a former abbey with outstanding architecture and magnificent interiors.  The Abbey is no longer consecrated but allows your civil wedding in Italy to have the ambiance of a church.  Finally you can be married in the Giardino Scotto which celebrates your Pisa wedding outdoors!

Exploring the area
The countryside and coastline around Pisa offer some fantasticTuscan wedding locations and best of all, they are less touristy.  Volterra, founded by the Etruscans is  an easy drive and wonderful for exploration.  Pisa is surrounded by glorious rolling hills, romantic vineyards and incredible olive groves and estates.  Many of these are now available for wedding events and offer apartment and villa rentals as well.  We highly recommend this area for a memorable wedding in Tuscany.

The Tuscan Riviera
Near Pisa is a truly spectacular coastline, the famous beach resorts of Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi and smaller coastal towns offering additional ceremony and reception options.
