For couples seeking romance, tranquillity and incredible beauty, Varenna is the perfect choice for a Lake Como wedding. The town can be reached via boat or ferry from all of the principal Lake Como towns.
Varenna’s magnificent villas with amazing lake view gardens will enchant you and best of all, many are available for civil ceremonies and elegant receptions. Discover the old cobbled streets and charming alleys of this ancient town and its lovely harbor with pastel colored boats. The harbor is a great place to enjoy a cappuccino or meal at one of the family run restaurants and cafes. Promenade along the water with a gelato and admire the ancient ruins of the Castello Vezio; the air is fresh and crisp and the setting absolutely magical.
In Varenna a civil marriage ceremony can be performed in one of several superlative villas. Our favorite, the Noble Varenna Villa, was built between the 1400 and 1800’s for an aristocratic family. The villa is famous for its gardens and park and weather permitting your civil ceremony can be held outside overlooking the incredible panorama of Lake Como. The interiors have been faithfully restored in keeping with the original architecture and are filled with elaborate antiques, marble columns and stairs and frescoes. The gardens are truly one of a kind and perfectly suited for an outdoor reception enjoying the glorious views.
Wedding receptions in Varenna can be planned inside the Noble Varenna Villas’ magnificent halls or the grounds, overlooking terraced gardens and parks. Wonderful lakeside restaurants and luxury hotels are other options. The region is one of refined gastronomic heritage and you can expect both quality and abundance regardless of where you decide to have your wedding celebration.
A Catholic marriage rite in Varenna, Lake Como is possible at an ancient lake-view church with imposing bell tower. This is one of the few Catholic churches available for non residents in the Lake Como area, and is quite beautiful, positioned in the heart of Varenna. It is only 15 minutes from Bellagio by boat. The interiors are exquisite, with dramatic vaulted arches and precious works of sacred art and paintings.
