Chianti Countryside Church
For a Catholic wedding in Chianti, this very old world Romanesque church would be a one of a kind location. The ancient church is built on the site of a former ancient temple, high on a hill and is one of the oldest churches in Tuscany and one of the finest examples or Romanesque architecture. Seemingly out of nowhere, the beautiful edifice rises, surrounded by cypress trees and olive groves. Located near the Val D’Elsa Valley and the town of Barberino it was originally built in 990. The overall location and setting are private and secluded while the views of the encompassing Tuscan countryside simply spectacular. The Gothic interior is made of three naves, divided by seven arches on large square pillars; some of which still show traces of Renaissance frescoes. Additional Renaissance frescoes from the school of Ghirlandaio decorate the walls. The church is steeped in an aura of antiquity and unique; quite mystical. It was listed as a monumental, historical building in 1902.
Regarding Catholic Weddings in the Pieve in Chianti
An English speaking priest will perform the ceremony. An organ is available for sacred music and we recommend a singer or additional instrument as an accompaniment since the churches’ acoustics are exceptional. Flower arrangements would be a lovely touch to decorate the church.
