Get married in Venice, the capital of romance and beauty! Venice is referred to as La Serenissima (the Most Serene One) and no city in the world can match its beauty and uniqueness; built entirely on water. Venice is the city of gondolas, the Grand Canal, Vivaldi’s music and elegant palaces. It is a place to discover on foot, getting lost in the many “calle” or narrow lanes and streets that make Venice so distinctive. The magnificent Piazza San Marco with its Byzantine cathedral and covered archways may well be Italy’s most famous and most photographed square. In summertime, the orchestras of Caffe’ Quadri and Caffe’ Florian play beautiful music while you sip a glass of champagne watching the world go by.

During Carnival, in February, Venice is transformed into an amazing spectacle of costumes, music and celebrations. It is something to see at least once in your life.

A Venice symbolic wedding offers options that are not available elsewhere. One of our favorite is the hidden garden of a private palace belonging to a countess.  Its sumptuous interiors are available for a formal Venice wedding reception. Several of the city’s finest luxury palace hotels offer amazing symbolic ceremony options. One of the 5 star hotels has its own enclosed garden while others offer huge terraces overlooking the Grand Canal. A romantic gondola symbolic ceremony at sunset floating down the Gran Canal would be an unforgettable memory. Exclusive venues on the nearby islands include gardens with views of the lagoon or the magical cloisters of a former convent. Imagine hosting your symbolic Venice ceremony and reception on a luxuriously furnished galleon, while sailing on your own private cruise along the lagoon. The views will amaze your guests! Our staff will present you with the perfect location and setting to match your wedding dreams.

Celebrate your Venice protestant ceremony in one of the city’s great historical churches. Several wonderful places of worship are available for your Venice religious ceremony such as the impressive Saint George’s Anglican Church or the Valdensian chapel.

If you prefer, we can have our pastor come to you allowing you the freedom to hold your event wherever you desire. A magnificent private palace with stunning interiors would be a once in a lifetime location for a protestant ceremony or the private cloister of a former monastery located in one of Venice’s luxury hotels. There are hidden gardens for an outdoor Venice wedding ceremony that offer incredible views and a secluded ambiance.

Regardless of your location, Distinctive Italy Weddings will help create a magical atmosphere with flower decorations and music for an unforgettable Venice wedding.

The city of Venice offers some of the most ancient and splendid churches for a catholic marriage ceremony in Italy; from the Byzantine basilica of St. Mark, to the Palladian masterpiece of the Chiesa del Redentore. The bride can arrive in a gondola or motor boat and the churches are located in the most scenic parts of Venice.

St. Mark’s Basilica
The ornate, Byzantine Basilica of San Marco is the principal church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice but was originally built as the private chapel of the Doge’s; the rulers of Venice. It was eventually nicknamed the Chiesa D’Oro (the gold church) due to its ornate gold mosaics. The outer and inner gilding's are representative of the richness of Venice when it ruled the Spice Route and was one of the wealthiest cities in the world. Subsequent additions continued the embellishment until the 1800’s and today it remains one of the world’s most elaborate cathedrals, both inside and out.

Chiesa del Redentore
The Chiesa del Redentore - The church of the Redeemer was built in the 16th century and was commission by the city in gratitude for its deliverance from the plague. The church features some of the greatest Venetian artists such as Tintoretto, Paolo Veronese and Francesco Bassano. The architect Palladio designed the church as a single nave with three chapels on each side. Vaulted arches are supported by intricately carved Corinthian columns which create a dramatic effect. The Chiesa del Redentore is situated in a highly prominent position on the Guidecca Canal. Palladio was inspired by the Parthenon of Athens in designing the facade and the church was built at the apex of the architect’s significant career. The Chiesa del Redentore is quite magnificent both inside and out and can hold very large groups of up to 300. A wonderful venue for couples wishing to get married in a catholic wedding in Venice.

Regarding catholic wedding in Venice
A catholic wedding in Venice can be either a religious blessing or be legally binding. Specific paperwork applies in either case and no weddings can be performed during Lent, Easter and specific religious holidays. Sacred music only.

The Palazzo Cavalli of Venice
Civil weddings in Venice are performed in the 16th Century Renaissance Palazzo Cavalli right off the Gran Canal, complete with elegant marble staircase. This may very well be Italy’s most famous wedding hall. The City of Venice purchased the private palace for the sole purpose of celebrating civil weddings. From its upper floor balcony you will enjoy stunning views of the Gran Canal and the Rialto Bridge which your wedding photographer will immortalize. The bride can arrive in a gondola; an appropriate landing is provided. Antique paintings and furnishings decorate the Palace throughout and frescoes adorn the walls.

Several other very exclusive palaces are available for civil weddings; please contact your wedding planner for details.

Regarding civil weddings in Venice:
The Venice Wedding Hall holds 60 (30 sitting and 30 standing), you are welcome to personalize the ceremony with music, vows and readings.

Civil Weddings on the Island of Murano, (Venice)
A second civil location is available for Venice, in a beautiful ancient Venetian Palace on the charming island of Murano, famous for its glass blowing artistry. Built between the 12th and 13th century it is a gorgeous example of Byzantine architecture. The island is only a short boat ride from Venice, one mile north of the city. The Murano Civil Wedding Hall enjoys similar architecture and style to that of Palazzo Cavalli. It also overlooks the Murano Gran Canal and has a panoramic balcony. We believe you will love this location just as much as that of Palazzo Cavalli and marrying on the Island of Murano guarantees privacy, elegance, and charm. The Murano wedding hall will easily accommodate larger groups of up to 80 guests.
