A Three day Tuscany Wedding Celebration!
Alexa and Brian’s Dream Wedding in Chianti
With strong Italian roots, for American couple Alexa and Brian, choosing Italy as their luxury destination wedding was easy.
But for the couple and their families, the wedding in Tuscany was about so much more than a beautiful location. Alexa’s family runs a bakery and they carry on a lot of pasted down Italian traditions, so they were extra excited to incorporate this aspect into their big day.
The couple arrived in Italy a week before the wedding to take a mini-trip around the Amalfi Coast and Capri Island to relax before the festivities begun.
When choosing their perfect Tuscany wedding venue it was important to consider the couple’s personal style, wedding theme and culture. The couple opted for a rustic-chic style honing in on authentic Italian décor and traditions, while still making sure every detail was elegant.
Since Alexa’s father was born in Siena, the couple felt a connection to the sunny Tuscan countryside.
The chosen venue was a luxurious Hamlet dating back to the 11th century and only a stone’s throw away from the city of Siena. The Borgo itself is a tiny medieval village that the couple had exclusively for their wedding events. Made up of ancient buildings and restored farmhouses, the Borgo’s atmosphere is almost ‘fairytale like’ as it’s charming, authentic and breathtakingly unique.
With 100 guests arriving for a 3 day celebration, Alexa and Brian made sure to have welcome bags made up with all sorts of goodies, with local products like wine, oil and honey and a personalized white Italian Moka pot with Alexa and Brian’s wedding date engraved on it. The bags also included an itinerary of the wedding events so that everyone could feel comfortable and excited about upcoming days. Guests stayed in the Borgo or in the neighboring town Pienza and found the welcome bags as a special surprise already in all of their rooms.
The celebration was kicked off by a welcome BBQ the night before the big day for all guests. The casual yet whimsical spread was arranged in a country-chic style buffet, decorated with restored wood barrel tables, which really tied in the surrounding vineyards of Tuscany, while a classic Italian folk band played in the background. The decorations were made of effortlessly beautiful arrangements of sunflowers, basil leaves, floral china and varying shades of Italian tomatoes.
The day of the wedding Alexa and her bridesmaids prepared in the Borgo. The talented bride did her own makeup and hair, while the bridesmaids were pampered by hairstylists and makeup artists.
Alexa donned an all white cap sleeve gown with delicate lace details, while her bridesmaids wore chic cream-colored dresses. All the gowns went perfectly with the elegant and authentic Tuscan atmosphere.
The entire Borgo was outfitted in luscious florals made up of white, ivory, shades of green and touches of gold. A staple flower featured was eucalyptus, being the bride’s personal favourite.
The ceremony was held outside overlooking the amazing rolling hills of southern Tuscany. White rose pedals created an aisle leading up to a stunning floral archway, creating the most breathtaking atmosphere for the couple to exchange their vows. While a string quartet played softly in the background, all the guests looked on as the emotional “I dos” were said. It was hard to not be overcome by the amazing fact that the Italian – American families were able to celebrate in their familiar home country.
After the ceremony, a poolside cocktail hour was held as the couple explored the grounds of the Borgo with a photographer capturing their intimate first moments as husband and wife.
The reception was held outdoors under all white canopies that lightly fluttered in the wind, while the horseshoe style table was adored with spontaneous white floral garlands, especially eucalyptus, glimmering gold candelabra and rustic chic wooden chairs. The sun started to set as guests found their seats and the jazz band started to play.
With strong ties to Italian food and culture, it was important that the wedding menu was nothing short of spectacular. Featuring dishes such as; Risotto with asparagus, zucchini flowers and Taleggio cheese, Champagne and lemon sea bass fillet on a bed of vegetables and beef fillet with aromatic olive oil, as well as many other mouthwatering dishes. The dinner was endless.
Now came the moment everyone was waiting for, the cutting of the cake. Being a talented pastry chef who makes and designs wedding cakes as part of her career, Alexa opted for a traditional Millefoglie cake and surprised all the guests by helping to prepare it in front of everyone! It made the special moment so much more personal and close to home.
As the Tuscan sky grew darker, cascading lights illumined the Borgo and everyone moved to the Italian gardens to celebrate on the dance floor under a fairy light ceiling.
With an abundance of tasty late night snacks, professional barman and a gelato cart, the party lasted well into the late hours of the night.
The celebrations finished off the next day with a farewell gourmet picnic in the garden, featuring wicker baskets on country-chic tables to create a relaxed setting.
As the wedding event came to an end, one thing was for sure, that Alexia and Brian’s emotional and authentic Tuscany wedding was unforgettable and the countryside surrounding Siena would always hold a special place in their hearts.
