CHOOSING THE RIGHT AMALFI COAST WEDDING VENUE

Amalfi Coast wedding venues vary enormously in setting, capacity and practical requirements. Some are ideal for intimate celebrations, while others can accommodate 150 guests or more. We know the differences between the properties, which venues suit each type of wedding and what is involved in bringing your plans to life.

MORE THAN A WEDDING DAY

A destination wedding on the Amalfi Coast can be an experience shared over several days. From a welcome dinner overlooking the sea to a private boat excursion, a long lunch in a coastal village and the wedding itself, we create a celebration that allows you and your guests to enjoy the destination naturally.

WHY GET MARRIED ON THE AMALFI COAST?

The Amalfi Coast is one of Italy's most distinctive wedding destinations, combining dramatic cliffs, historic villas, terraced gardens and luxury hotels overlooking the Mediterranean. The setting becomes an integral part of the celebration, with each town offering a different atmosphere and style of venue.
Villa Cimbrone Wedding Couple
Villa Cetinale gardens near Siena
Renowned for its historic villas, magnificent gardens and elevated sea views. Properties such as Villa Cimbrone offer spectacular settings for weddings, particularly for couples seeking elegant outdoor celebrations.
Villa Gamberaia gardens overlooking Florence
Combines the character of a historic coastal town with hotels and former monasteries overlooking the sea. It offers options for mid-sized celebrations and couples who want to incorporate the town's architecture and atmosphere into their wedding.
Villa di Maiano wedding venue in Fiesole, above Florence
Home to exceptional clifftop hotels and secluded coastal settings, making it an appealing choice for couples seeking privacy, sea views and a luxury hotel experience.
Villa Palmieri gardens, wedding venue near Florence
Famous for its colourful buildings, steep streets and extraordinary coastal scenery. Its limited space and challenging access make it best suited to micro-weddings and intimate celebrations rather than large-scale weddings.
Villa I Collazzi wedding venue near Florence
Offer further possibilities for couples considering a wedding in the Bay of Naples and surrounding coastline. From grand hotels and private estates to dramatic island settings, each destination offers a different way to experience southern Italy.

THE AMALFI COAST IS THE SETTING

A wedding here can move naturally between land and sea. Guests might arrive at a private villa, take cocktails on a terrace overlooking the coast, board a sailboat for a sunset welcome dinner cruise, or gather for dinner in a historic property above the water.

The destination should enhance the wedding, not overwhelm it. For a larger celebration, this requires experienced planning: the coast has narrow roads, steep terrain and properties with very different access and production requirements. That does not prevent 100- or 150-person weddings; it means the venue, accommodation, transportation and production have to be considered together.

THE VENUES WE RETURN TO

These are properties we consider because they offer something exceptional for a wedding and because we understand how they work in practice.
Villa Cimbrone Wedding Venue - Ravello

RAVELLO

VILLA CIMBRONE

Best for: Couples who want a spectacular historic villa, extraordinary gardens and a wedding surrounded by some of the Amalfi Coast’s most iconic views.

19 rooms and suites

150 guests

Villa Cimbrone is one of the great wedding settings of the Amalfi Coast because the property gives you far more than a single spectacular view. The Belvedere Terrace and Terrace of Infinity provide the extraordinary panorama for which Cimbrone is known. The gardens create a succession of settings for ceremonies, cocktails and photographs, while the Crypt, with its vaulted arches and open sides overlooking the coast, offers a completely different atmosphere. The estate has centuries of history, but for a wedding what matters is the extraordinary collection of spaces and the way they unfold across the property.

RAVELLO

VILLA LA RONDINAIA

Best for: Couples who want a truly private celebration in a villa carved into the cliffs, with extraordinary terraces, gardens and a setting unlike any other on the coast.

12 guests/6 guest rooms (within walking distance of many hotels)
150 guests (recommended by DIW – the venue states up to 180)
La Rondinaia is one of the most unusual private properties on the coast. It is essentially built into the cliff, with terraces, gardens and rooms following the rock and appearing to hang above the sea. The name comes from rondine, swallow in Italian, referring to its extraordinary position of a swallow’s nest. The villa was famously the home of writer Gore Vidal, who lived and worked there for more than three decades. For a wedding, the appeal is the property itself: a succession of terraces and outdoor spaces, dramatic views and an exceptional sense of privacy. It feels like a private Italian residence rather than a hotel. It is extraordinary.

Hotel Santa Caterina is built into the cliff just outside Amalfi, with terraces stepping down towards the water and a private beach club below. CONCA DEI MARINI

BORGO SANT'ANDREA

Best for: Couples who appreciate exceptional design and want the architecture, interiors, terraces, beach and sea to be part of the wedding itself.

52 rooms and suites

Borgo Sant'Andrea is spectacular. Built into the cliff between Amalfi and Praiano, the hotel steps down towards the Mediterranean and feels almost suspended above the water. The private beach and private jetty are a major part of what makes the property special: guests can arrive by boat, spend time on the water and move between the sea and the terraces. Colourful ceramics, gardens, stonework and beautifully designed terraces give the hotel a very strong sense of place. For a multi-day wedding, the hotel, beach, boat arrival and celebration become one experience.

It has a strongly residential feel and extraordinary access to the sea. It is an exceptional choice for a very intimate celebration, where privacy and the character of the property matter more than guest numbers. It is also a very high-investment option, with budgets starting at approximately €1 million and above.

SORRENTO

VILLA ASTOR

Best for: Couples who want an extraordinary private estate where lush botanical gardens, Roman antiquities and terraces suspended above the Bay of Naples create a wedding unlike any other.

20 guests
200 guests (outdoors)
Villa Astor sits above the Bay of Naples with Mount Vesuvius across the water. The gardens are the heart of the property: terraces filled with exotic planting, classical statues, Roman remains, fountains and architectural fragments lead the eye towards the sea. William Waldorf Astor transformed the property and developed its gardens and collection of antiquities. For a wedding, what matters is what those gardens provide — a succession of extraordinary settings for ceremony, cocktails, photographs and dinner, all with the Bay of Naples as the backdrop. It is a highly individual alternative to a luxury hotel and particularly strong for an intimate celebration.

This is not an exhaustive list but reflects the highlights of the Amalfi Coast.

WHAT WE CONSIDER BEFORE RECOMMENDING A VENUE

On the Amalfi Coast, a venue has to work operationally as well as visually:
GUEST COUNT
ACCOMMODATION
TRANSPORTATION
PRODUCTION ACCESS
BOAT ACCESS
MUSIC RESTRICTIONS
RAIN PLAN
CATERING
POWER
RESTROOMS
This is where our local experience matters. A venue can be spectacular and still be wrong for a particular wedding. Our role is to know the difference before you commit.

WHAT SIZE WEDDING CAN YOU PLAN ON THE AMALFI COAST?

There is no single guest-count cut-off for the Amalfi Coast. We plan weddings here for intimate groups as well as celebrations of around 150 guests and beyond, depending on the property and event format.

The distinction is between the destination and the individual venue. Some properties are ideal for 30 guests; others can accommodate a substantial production. Some require guests to stay nearby; others can keep everyone together. A limited number of venues can host events for 200+.

Positano is the exception. Because of the town's geography and limited wedding infrastructure, we generally consider it a micro-wedding or intimate destination rather than a base for a larger wedding.

For very large celebrations, Tuscany offers more choice and flexibility, but guest count alone does not rule the Amalfi Coast out.

AMALFI COAST Wedding FAQ

What is the cost of a wedding on the Amalfi Coast?
A luxury multi-day Amalfi Coast wedding typically starts at around €200,000, excluding guest accommodation. For budgets around €100,000, the possibilities depend on your guest count, choice of venue, and celebration format. A smaller wedding, a two-day celebration, or a venue booked for the wedding day only may offer more flexibility. Distinctive Italy plans events from Euro 100,000 to Euro 1M+.
Which airport should you fly into for an Amalfi Coast wedding?
Naples International Airport (NAP) is the main gateway for the Amalfi Coast. Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport (QSR) is another option, especially for the eastern coast, although flight availability is more limited. Rome is an alternative for some international routes.
How far is the Amalfi Coast from Naples Airport?
The journey depends on your destination. As a general guide, allow approximately 1–1.5 hours by private transfer to Sorrento or Positano and around 1.5–2 hours to Amalfi or Ravello, with longer journeys possible during busy periods.
How do wedding guests get around the Amalfi Coast?
Private transfers, minibuses and boats can all play a role. The best arrangements depend on the venue, where guests are staying and the timing of each event. Narrow roads, seasonal traffic and limited parking make advance planning essential.
Which Amalfi Coast venues are best for large weddings?

The best location for a large wedding on the Amalfi Coast depends on your guest count and the type of celebration you have in mind. Sorrento and Ravello offer venues suitable for larger weddings, including properties with spacious gardens, terraces and dedicated event areas. Amalfi is well suited to mid-sized celebrations, while Positano is generally best for very small, intimate weddings due to its limited space, steep terrain and access restrictions.

For weddings with 150 guests or more, we recommend focusing on Sorrento and Ravello, where the choice of venue can better accommodate larger receptions and the logistics of a multi-day celebration. The right property will depend on guest numbers, accommodation requirements and the style of wedding you wish to create.

Can you organise a multi-day wedding on the Amalfi Coast?
Yes. Many couples plan a welcome dinner, wedding day and farewell brunch, with optional boat trips or other experiences. The schedule should reflect the location, travel times and the experience you want guests to enjoy.
What happens if it rains on your Amalfi Coast wedding day?
Every venue should have a realistic wet-weather plan. The available indoor space, covered terraces and options for moving the ceremony or reception vary considerably between properties.
Can we organise a boat or yacht event as part of our Amalfi Coast wedding?
Yes. A private boat can work for a welcome event, daytime celebration, sunset cruise or farewell.
Where should wedding guests stay on the Amalfi Coast?
This depends on the venue and wedding size. Some properties accommodate guests on site; others are paired with nearby hotels. We plan accommodation and transportation together with the venue.
Can we have a legal wedding?
Yes. Civil, Catholic and symbolic ceremonies can be arranged depending on the location and requirements. Sorrento does not allow Catholic ceremonies for non-residents.
What is the best time of year to get married on the Amalfi Coast?
April through October are the principal wedding months. May, June, September and October are especially popular, while July and August offer the full Mediterranean summer experience.
How far in advance should we book an Amalfi Coast wedding?
We recommend 12–18 months, and earlier for highly sought-after properties and peak-season dates.
Amalfi Coast or Tuscany: which is right for your wedding?

Tuscany gives you more private estates and flexibility for very large weddings. The Amalfi Coast offers cliffs, sea, historic coastal towns, villas and gardens, with the possibility of incorporating the water into the weekend.

Lake Como is defined by the lake and its historic villas. The Amalfi Coast is defined by cliffs, the open Mediterranean, coastal towns and a distinctly southern Italian atmosphere.
