Tuscany works particularly well for couples who want their wedding to feel like a holiday shared with their guests rather than a single evening.
Florence brings Renaissance palazzi, private gardens, exceptional restaurants and cultural experiences. Outside the city, the landscape opens into vineyards, olive groves, hiscoric villas, castles and private estates.
It also offers something increasingly important for larger destination weddines: space. Tuscan properties are sencrally larser than thord found on Lake Como or the Amalfi Coast, wich more room for guest accommodation, multiple event spaces and substantial production.

FLORENCE + SURROUNDINGS
Stay in Florence and use different properties for different parts of the celebration-a city rooftop welcome cocktail in a Renaissance palarzo, a villa wedding just outside the city and perhaps a farewell event back in Florence.
Florence works beautifully as a base. Guests stay in the centre, walk to dinner, kcep a free morning for the Uffizi or the artisan workshops of the Oltrarno, and return to their hotel on foot at the end of the evenins

The Ferragamo Estate truly has everything. A restored medieval hamlet offering accommodation, a luxurious Renaissance villa, restaurants, pools and multiple event settings including an extraordinary amphitheater, Italian gardens. Most Distinctive Italy Weddings clients planning a full Tuscan wedding weekend invest between €200,000 and €500,000+, with €200,000+ being a realistic starting point for a luxury multi-day celebration, excluding guest accommodation.
As a general planning guide:
- Exclusive venue hire: approximately €15,000 for a single day, rising to €190,000+ for an exclusive estate buyout
- Catering: approximately €200–€300+ per guest
- Design & production: approximately €50,000–€150,000+
These are planning guidelines rather than quotations. Guest count, venue, number of events and the level of production can move the final investment considerably.
Guest accommodation is normally booked and paid for separately by your guests. The advantage of on-site accommodation is convenience and privacy; where it is not available, we coordinate nearby hotels and guest transportation.
Venue hire gives you access to the property; production is everything required to create the event within it.
The venue fee alone rarely tells the whole story. Some properties require considerable additional investment to create the infrastructure needed for a wedding, while others include accommodation, multiple event spaces and much of the operational framework within the estate. We therefore look at the complete cost of hosting your celebration, rather than comparing venue hire fees in isolation.
There are many, and the right choice depends heavily on your guest count and the type of wedding weekend you want. Rather than trying to navigate an enormous list of properties, couples often come to Distinctive Italy with their requirements and we identify the estates and resorts that genuinely fit. Accommodation ranges from 10 to over 300 guests.
Most of the grand Florentine villas do not offer accommodation on site, so guests stay in Florence itself.
Tuscany offers an unusually large choice of venues for weddings of 200 guests or more. Villa di Maiano can accommodate up to 300 guests indoors across several halls, Villa Palmieri up to 250, and Villa I Collazzi more than 400.
Tuscany has far more possibilities than any single list can capture. We look beyond capacity to consider the overall experience, accommodation, catering facilities, production access, guest flow, rain plan and the character of the venue itself.
Yes. Civil ceremonies can be arranged through the relevant comune, while Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and symbolic ceremonies can also be arranged depending on the venue and location.
For international couples, the legal requirements depend on nationality and ceremony type, so we guide you through the process from the beginning.
One of the advantages of Tuscany is the flexibility available for evening celebrations, with some venues permitting music until 4 a.m. This is one of the first details we confirm before recommending a property.
For example, Villa di Maiano can host receptions until 1:30 a.m., with extensions to 4 a.m. by arrangement. At Villa Palmieri, outdoor music ends at 11:30pm, while ballroom celebrations can continue later until 3am.
No. Much of the planning can be handled remotely, and we regularly work with couples who live outside Italy.
Site visits are helpful when possible, particularly when choosing between several venues, but they are not a requirement for working with Distinctive Italy Weddings. We also highly recommend one planning trip for catering tasting, beauty trial and meeting key vendors with your main planner.
April through October offer excellent opportunities for a Tuscan wedding, with each season bringing its own character.
April and May bring fresh spring landscapes and gardens in bloom. June offers long summer evenings, while July and August tend to be the driest as far as rain with full atmosphere of the Tuscan summer. September and October are particularly beautiful for couples drawn to the countryside, vineyards and the softer light of early autumn.
The ideal month ultimately depends on your venue, guest experience and the type of celebration you have in mind.
We generally recommend beginning 12–18 months in advance, particularly if you have a specific estate or Saturday date in mind. But it is possible to start the planning in February for a September/October wedding of the same year.
The most sought-after properties, especially those offering accommodation, tend to book first. Larger weddings requiring substantial production benefit from starting even earlier.

Couples often ask us whether they should choose Tuscany, Lake Como or the Amalfi Coast. It depends on the style you want and the size and structure of your wedding.
Lake Como is particularly suited to couples drawn to waterfront villas, private boats and celebrations of approximately 40–150 guests. The lake itself becomes part of the experience, with elegant villas, boat transfers and dramatic waterfront settings.
Tuscany offers the greatest variety and scale, with castles, Renaissance villas, private estates and luxury resorts. There is an exceptional choice of properties, including estates that can accommodate substantial numbers of guests on site. It is particularly well suited to larger weddings, extensive production and multi-day celebrations.
The Amalfi Coast offers a very different experience: spectacular cliffside settings, dramatic ocean views and the charm of smaller coastal towns. The choice of suitable wedding venues is more limited, particularly for larger celebrations, and very few properties can accommodate substantial numbers of guests on site. Steep terrain, narrow coastal roads and the distances between towns make transportation and supplier logistics more complex, while travel from the nearest major airports also requires additional planning.
